About Karen DeSoto

Karen DeSoto became not only the youngest, but the first Hispanic and first woman appointed to the position of Corporation Counsel for Jersey City, the second largest city in New Jersey. Today, Karen DeSoto serves as a New Jersey attorney overseeing her private practice, the Law Office of Karen F. DeSoto. DeSoto concentrates in a vast variety of fields, focusing highly on areas of criminal defense, municipal corporations, employment discrimination, and civil rights. She is recognized as one of the most respected attorneys in her field. In addition to being one of the State’s top attorneys, Karen DeSoto serves as an esteemed television legal analyst for MSNBC. On top of her duties as an attorney and legal analyst for MSNBC, Karen DeSoto is an incredibly dedicated and wholehearted altruist. In 1999, Karen DeSoto co-founded the Ray of Hope Foundation for Children, an organization providing assistance to terminally ill children and families in need. DeSoto also sits on the Board of Directors of the Head Start Program for Jersey City, a national program whose goal is to educate three to five year olds along with their families. DeSoto is also a Mentor and Trustee of the Cunningham Foundation that awards four-year college scholarships to students. Furthermore, Karen DeSoto sits on the Board of Directors of the Hudson County Hispanic Coalition, a non-profit organization that addresses the needs of the community. She is also on the Board of Directors of the Beth Miriam homeless shelter project, a shelter focused on the needs of women in crisis. Karen DeSoto most recently received the Humanitarian of the Year award from the City of Bayonne Youth Center, recognizing her selfless philanthropic efforts and career as a successful and illustrious attorney. Karen DeSoto earned her Bachelor degree from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. She initiated her legal studies at the Temple University School of Law in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where she obtained her Juris Doctor. DeSoto continued her studies at Temple University, completing her Master of Laws in Trial Advocacy.
